Carolina Román, Therapist Sugar Land(Sugar Land)
M.A. in Counseling, LMFT, EMDR & EFT Trained Therapist
I am Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) providing psychotherapy services for individuals and couples. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
When it comes to couples counseling, I follow the gold standard in the industry. I am a member of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). Currently trained in the use of EFT, I am working toward becoming a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist.
As a former U.S. Army Reservist (1999-2009), who deployed for one year to the Horn of Africa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) for the Global War on Terrorism, I am passionate about working with veterans and veteran couples. During my graduate studies, I also trained with U.S. Army Chaplains from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, 2009-2010, at the Family Life Center.
I am a native Spanish speaker.
I have experience working with clients on a range of issues and life situations, including:

Carolina’s approach to counseling…
With couples, I work toward learning their unique dance – a view into how a couple interacts with one another. I help explore how they are emotionally impacted by their partner and how they in turn impact one another. There are positive as well as negative patterns to these interactions. Negative patterns have a way of chipping away at the bond and can further drive distress into the relationship when the pattern takes over.
I follow an empirically validated EFT roadmap developed by Dr. Sue Johnson. As a process consultant, and through the use of experiential exercises, I facilitate the development of new and healthier couple interactions. Through this process, attachment injuries that may have manifested during disconnect and distress, are also attended to. Altogether, the couple becomes more united and healthier adult bonds are strengthened.
With individual clients, I use my keen educated and trained sense of curiosity, which I implement as a way to learn their life’s story. I walk at their pace and help create space where change could enter. When fitting to their therapeutic goals, I listen for messages connected to the past, and help work toward healing unresolved from adverse childhood circumstances.
I help individuals notice how their physiology, emotions, thoughts, and belief systems offer signals into their present experiences. I aid individuals in accessing ways to bring calmness through relaxation exercises, mindfulness and insight.

Natalie’s approach to counseling…
“It all begins and ends in your mind. What you give power to, has power over you, if you allow it”. – Leon Brown
I believe in the significance of uncovering the strength of the mind to achieve living a purposeful life. More importantly, discovering the direct relation between thoughts, feelings/emotions, and behavior. Awareness of these connections allow for the shift in power of control of your life back into your hands!
I use a collaborative, strengths-based approach to assist in the creation of a path, unique to the individual. This path identifies core values and beliefs that act as blueprint for personal growth, in all areas of life.
When working with teens, I strive to create a space for empowerment. I believe it is important to feel confident enough to use voice as a vice to communicate thoughts and feelings. I help create a safe place to effectively communicate thoughts and emotions to strengthen relationships with family, partners, and peers.
I use an integrated therapeutic approach that incorporates, but not limited to: Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Person Centered Counseling and Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques.

Lisa Kampwerth, TherapistKaty/Cinco Ranch(Katy/Cinco Ranch, Sugar Land)
Sugar Land
MSW, LCSW
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing psychotherapy services for children, adolescents, families, individuals and couples. Most of my clinical experience has been working with clients and their families who have suffered through various traumas, such as physical, sexual, and verbal abuse, and neglect.
I have helped clients with various behavioral issues, such as juvenile delinquency, conduct disorder, substance abuse, truancy, teen pregnancy, attachment issues and family conflict, and those who have struggled living with various types of mental health disorders.
I also have experience, both personally and professionally, in working with children living in foster care and with children placed in adoptive homes.
My most recent passion over the last few years has been helping couples heal from toxic interactions. An intimate relationship can be one of the biggest joys in life, but it can also serve to be one of the greatest sources of pain. Too many relationships become unhappy and unsuccessful because the couple never learned how to get unstuck.
I help couples identify areas of gridlock and explore each other’s perspectives, needs, fears and goals to reach a much deeper level of understanding. Most importantly, we work together to shed old communication patterns and replace them with healthier styles that allow for more openness and respect. The goal is to learn healthy habits that will lend itself to meeting individual needs and an overall more content relationship.
I am passionate when it comes to helping all types of clients, whether they are children, adolescents, families, couples or individuals, facilitate the change he or she desperately wants and deserves so one can live a more fulfilling life.
I work with children 5 years and older and have experience working with clients on a range of issues and life situations, including:

Lisa's approach to counseling...
My goal in therapy is to provide a safe place where there is unconditional positive regard and a nonjudgmental approach, so you can share your story and feel heard and understood.
I like to use an integrative approach that derives from Person Centered, Family Systems and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies. I believe that therapy should be conducted within a person centered framework that helps facilitate personal growth and development, eliminates or mitigates feelings of distress, increases self-esteem and openness to experience, and enhances the client's understanding of him- or herself all in a non-judgmental way. Additionally, when working with families, my goal is to help family members improve communication, solve family problems, understand and handle special family situations, and create a better functioning home environment.
Foremost, the therapy I provide is very solution focused and involves the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which seeks to explore the client’s cognitive and behavioral constructs to identify unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving and to implement positive and adaptive coping strategies.
I will use the therapeutic modality that is best suited for you and your presenting challenge. Each client is unique and therefor you should expect a tailored treatment plan that will provide the best possible solution to address the areas or behaviors they seek to change. I will challenge you at times and will stress the importance of homework and self-practice between sessions, all for your benefit. I will work in collaboration with you so that you are an instrumental part of your own therapy.

Desiree's approach to counseling...
I incorporate an integrated approach to counseling that combines the best approach for each individual client drawn from Attachment, Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT), and Person-Centered theoretical approaches. Attachment theory focuses on relationships and bonds people develop. These bonds may go back to childhood and affect how a person operates in their current relationships. CBT is an evidence-based treatment proven to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, PTSD, anger, marital and relationship problems, insomnia, and other struggles. CBT helps people to identify and change thought patterns that have a negative influence on behavior and emotions. A Person-Centered approach is a humanistic approach that empowers and motivates individuals and looks at the ways in which individuals view themselves.
I will listen to you with empathetic understanding, unconditional positive regard, and be genuine, supportive, and non-judgmental. We will work toward goals that we develop together, as well as concentrating on identifying and changing old patterns, understanding ourselves better, and improving communication.
Together we will work to achieve the best possible results for you.

We live in challenging times, and it’s often hard to know what to do in the face of adversity, but you don’t have to go through it alone. I believe in your ability to overcome life’s obstacles and create a life based on emotional stability and joy.

Tammy's approach to counseling...
I practice a holistic approach to counseling and psychotherapy that embraces the well-being of the person or couple as a whole – mental, emotional, physical, cultural, and spiritual. I want to help you live your best life. This help may include encouraging, supporting, teaching, confronting, and even calling you out on your ‘bull’ when necessary. I embrace people from all walks of life with unconditional acceptance and without judgment or preconceived ideas. I affirm that everyone has a right to live a healthy, authentic life that is free from judgment and shame. I want to help you honor your voice and live your truth.
No one theoretic approach will work in every situation, but my preferred therapeutic modality leans strongly toward Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Counseling, and Solution Focused Therapy, with a nod to Existentialism, and my methodology for couples counseling is heavily influenced by Gottman and Imago. Our thoughts become our beliefs and, as such, have a significant impact on what we manifest in our lives. CBT is a goal-oriented treatment approach designed to change maladaptive thoughts and behaviors in order to generate more appropriate feelings and outcomes. Gottman is one of the nation’s leading marriage researchers and educators who, it has been said, has the spirit of a scientist and the soul of a romantic.
We will build a healthy therapeutic relationship based on a foundation of trust. That trust will provide a safe place for you to share honestly and openly, apply new approaches to your current situation, work toward a healthier existence, and improve your outlook. Through this process, I will help you discover thoughts and patterns that have held you back from your best life. Together, we will find new, healthy behaviors for you that garner growth and healing. This evolution may come in many forms; we may laugh, cry, throw things (soft things) at the wall.
We will take this journey together and find the path that works best for you, but the destination and route we take are ultimately up to you, and so is the work to get there. I will encourage, motivate, and challenge you, but the effort to reach your potential must come from within. You will get out of therapy only as much as you are willing to put in. I firmly believe that YOU have the ability to determine your best life; the power is within you right now. Thank you for trusting me to take this journey with you.
On the personal side...
I live with the love of my life and our five rescue animals in NW Houston. I have known him since kindergarten, but we didn’t become an “us” until the pandemic hit in 2020. Together we have two grown children who, ironically, were born just two weeks apart. My daddy was in the Navy, so I’ve lived all over the world but am a Texas gal through and through. I love to read, write, cook, and spend time with my family, and I love that I get to help people find their happy. I am blessed to be able to say that I’m living the life I always prayed for.
