If you have experienced abuse by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident spouse, parent, or child, you may be eligible to apply for immigration relief under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). A psychological evaluation can help strengthen your petition by documenting the emotional and psychological effects of the abuse you’ve endured.
At Motivations Counseling, we provide trauma-informed, culturally sensitive evaluations designed to meet USCIS standards — while supporting you with compassion and care throughout the process.
Our physical offices are located in Sugar Land and Katy, but we can conduct an evaluation anywhere in the state. In fact, many of our clients hail from Dallas, Lubbuck, San Antonio, and other far-flung parts of the state. If you're in Texas, we've got you covered!
All of our intake and assessment forms are filled out online and our licenced therapists can easily conduct the evaluation via a HIPAA-secure telehealth platform.
We have bilingual therapists and interpreters that can conduct assessments in your native language!
Our therapists are available to talk to you with short notice often with same-day appointments. Contact us today to schedule an evaluation.

Do I have to share everything that happened to me during the evaluation?
No. You are always in control of how much you share. We will guide the conversation gently, and you are never required to talk about anything you're not ready to. Our goal is to understand how the abuse has affected your emotional and mental well-being — not to make you relive it.
What if I’m not sure my experience counts as abuse?
What if I’m not sure my experience counts as abuse?
That’s okay. Many people aren’t sure if their situation “qualifies.” Abuse can be emotional, verbal, psychological, physical, sexual, or even financial. During your evaluation, we’ll explore your experiences without judgment, and help determine how they fit into a VAWA petition.
