VAWA Psychological Evaluations in Texas

Trauma-Informed VAWA Immigration Evaluations for Survivors of Abuse

Motivations Counseling provides VAWA psychological evaluations for clients in Texas who have experienced abuse by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident spouse, parent, or child.

A VAWA psychological evaluation can help document the emotional and psychological effects of abuse, including trauma responses, anxiety, depression, fear, coercive control, relationship harm, and changes in daily functioning.

Compassionate Clinical Documentation

Psychological Evaluations for VAWA Self-Petitions

If you have experienced emotional, psychological, physical, sexual, verbal, or financial abuse, a psychological evaluation may help explain how those experiences have affected your mental health, emotional stability, relationships, sense of safety, and ability to function.

Our evaluations are trauma-informed and culturally sensitive. The goal is not to force you to relive painful experiences, but to understand and document the impact of abuse with care, respect, and clinical clarity.

VAWA Evaluation FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to share everything that happened to me during the evaluation?

No. You are always in control of how much you share. We guide the conversation gently, and you are never required to talk about anything you are not ready to discuss. The goal is to understand how the abuse affected your emotional and mental well-being, not to make you relive it.

What if I’m not sure my experience counts as abuse?

That is understandable. Many people are unsure whether their experience “counts.” Abuse can be emotional, verbal, psychological, physical, sexual, financial, or involve coercive control. During the evaluation, we explore your experiences without judgment and document their emotional impact.

What is the cost of the evaluation and report?

The cost of an immigration evaluation is typically $650 in English. This includes one clinical assessment appointment of up to approximately 90 minutes with a licensed therapist and preparation of the written report. Additional fees may apply for interpreters, expedited delivery, or special circumstances.

How long will it take to schedule the immigration evaluation?

Once you are ready to get started, our team will ask you to complete client paperwork and schedule an appointment. In some cases, a therapist may be available the same day or shortly after intake forms are completed.

How long will it take to get my report?

Reports are typically completed within 4–5 days, with expedited delivery sometimes available within approximately 48 hours for an additional fee depending on clinician availability and case needs.

Can the VAWA evaluation be completed by telehealth?

Yes. VAWA psychological evaluations may be available by telehealth for clients who are physically located in Texas at the time of service, depending on clinical appropriateness, technology access, interpreter needs, and case requirements.
